Iceland has become one of the biggest touristic spots for the last few years. It is an experience of a lifetime, something that needs to be checked off your bucketlist! Be it the northern lights, the stunning glaciers or the delicious food, this guide has you covered:
A certified nutritionist and a business management graduate, Namrata loves cheese and adventurous vacations!
Iceland, as many of you must’ve already heard, is by far the most sought after destination in Europe. Its heaven for adrenaline junkies and nature lovers alike. Every few miles the landscape makes you feel like you walking through a Wes Anderson movie.
This is a 7 day itinerary that captures the highlights of Iceland for an adventurous couple:
Land in Keflavik Airport and explore Reykjavik city. Special recommendations include bird watching at ‘The Pond’, visiting the ‘Old Harbour’ and the Grandi District. Grab a bite at a pizza place called ‘12 Hverfisgata‘.
Drive the famous ‘Golden Circle Route’ starting with Thingvellier National Park, the Geysir geothermal area where you see the Stokkur Geysir erupt sulphurously and end with the very powerful Gulfoss Waterfall. Stop at Kerið Volcanic Crater, you can walk around this magnificent site all the way down into a water filled crater.
Take a one-hour horse-riding tour at Hestheimar on Road 281. Drive along the scenic South Coast. Stop to climb a hidden path behind Seljalandsfoss waterfall. You can additionally opt for snowmobiling on Myrdalsjokull Glacier. Finally make you way to Reynisfjara which is a world-famous black-sand beach, just beside the small fishing village of Vík with enormous basalt stacks, roaring Atlantic waves and stunning panoramas. Don’t miss the ATV adventure ending at a WW1 plane wreck.
This morning you can head to Skaftafell National Park. Do take a quick pit stop to see the basalt columns at Dverghamrar or the picturesque Turf Farm at Nupastaoaskogur. Make the longest journey to the east most point of Southern Iceland to a place that can be truly described as heaven-on-earth, Jökulsárlón. At night, on Hotel Laki’s viewing platform (and if you’re lucky) you can enjoy the aurora borealis dancing for you after you enjoy the dinner at the Crater Restaurant.
Drive along the Southern Coast to Vik and head to Solheimajokull for another glacier hike. Drive onto Road 221 and meet at the base Aracanum where the guide provides you with a helmet, crampons and ice axe. Have dinner at Strodin Bistro & Bar.
Drive through the seaside villages of Eyrabakki, Stokkseyri and Reykjanes Lighthouse before you reach the Blue Lagoon. Jump into the pool and pre book a massage, if you like.
Head back to Reykjavik and enjoy a casual bistro drink and lunch at Nora before you fly out.

July 11, 2018 at 3:18 pmMy friends and I have been planning a trip for several months. We tried to make our route focusing on public transport, but we realized that we would not be able to visit all the planned places in this way so we decided to rent a car. I hope everything will be fine and in accordance with our needs.
