Berlin, a beautiful city with a dark past. You cannot walk around the city without feeling a little heavy in your heart, but filled with awe by it’s resilience. Find the old and new  architecture; modern buildings along with the remodeled iconic building destroyed due to war. You can see Berlin moving on, yet remembering the events they came out of – reinventing. Monumental sculptures to commemorate the victims of violence, injustice and war. This guide is perfect for every tourist and every vegetarian tourist. 

There is really something for everyone in Berlin; be it historic sites, the nightlife, adventure, even the  booming vegan food scene. The number of restaurants with vegan and vegetarian options is extremely impressive. Here are some spots that are simply unmissable :

Day 1

TOURISTIC

Alexander Platz & Potsdamer Platz

Roam around the square to get a feel of Berlin. The best spots to start off your trip, populated with tourists, tons of shops and central to everything you may want to head to next. You will get a great view of the Fernsehturm (TV tower) and loads of delicious restaurants near by.

Deutsches Spionange Museum

The spy museum is ideal if you have kids, but equally entertaining as an adult! Learn about the spies during the First World War, Cold War and separation of Berlin; who they are, what they did and the coolest gadgets they used. You will find fun interactive activities around the museum, from decoding a message, to creating a unhackable password, to finding bugs in a makeshift room, to surviving a laser course. Get a sense of the secret services and agents in the capital of spies. 

LUNCH

Soy

The most delicious vegan/vegetarian restaurant, serving Vietnamese fare. You will not be disappointed! They have an extensive menu with the best traditional Vietnamese dishes. Recommended plates include: Dumplings, Vietnamese pancakes and Pho. However, there are various Asian tapas, hot pot and a variety of noodle and rice dishes worth trying. One visit is not enough. 

TOURISTIC

Sony Center

Do not miss out on this one. It is absolutely beautiful, surrounded by lights and people. You can choose to go to the mall, or watch a movie at the theatre, kickback at the cute restaurants or just walk around this stunning futuristic location. 

DINNER

Josty Pizza

Whilst in the Sony Center, check out this pizzeria. They serve great comfort food; drool-worthy pizzas, satisfying salads and amazing bruschetta. This restaurant is not just well located but is truly delicious Italian food! 

CAFE

Jamboree – Grand Hyatt

Visit this spot at any time of the day, Jamboree is a great cafe/bar to head to for some drinks or the BEST hot chocolate. You can choose from milk, dark and white chocolate to mix into your hot milk. The retro ambience, laid back nature and friendly staff will make your night end perfectly. 

Day 2

BREAKFAST

Cafe Einstein

A quick pit spot before you start your busy day. Get some great coffee, hot chocolate or quick bites. This cafe is extremely popular in Berlin and ideal for coffee-lovers. 

 

TOUR

Insider Famous Walking Tour 

Whilst you may want to try the cycling or segway tour. The Insider Famous Walking Tour is totally worth it. Reasonably priced (14 Euro for 26- year olds) and among the nicest tour guides. They certainly make the experience entertaining and informative. This tour entails the top touristic locations such as Checkpoint Charlie, Hitler’s bunker, Topographie Des Terrors, Memorial to the Murdered Jews, Site of the Nazi Book Burning, Berlin Wall, Brandenburg Gate and much more. Learn about the First World War, Cold War and what Berlin is today; how they are putting themselves back together again. 

LUNCH

Vapiano 

A lot of you might have already heard of this chain before. But did you know it was German? Yes, you heard right, the first ever Vapiano was established in Hamburg, Germany. They have a great selection of Italian dishes, counter service where you can get pastas and pizzas made in front of you, customized to your liking.

 

TOURISTIC

East Side Gallery

If you didn’t get to check out the East Side Gallery on your tour, definitely add this to your list now! It is a must see monument of the Berlin Wall. The difference between this and part of the Berlin Wall at Typography of Terror, is that this one is filled with art and graffiti. You just cannot leave Berlin without seeing this iconic site. 

SNACK

Rausch

One of the finest chocolate shops in Germany. Worth a detour! Walk around their store and take pictures with the coolest chocolate sculptures; or buy some truffles and your favorite flavors. If you are a fan of hot chocolate, definitely try the one at Rausch, they have the largest variety and different percentages of chocolate.

 

DINNER 

Cookies Cream

This Michelin-Starred restaurant is a hit or miss; but regardless is an unique experience. While this restaurant may be hard to find, its all a part of the charm. It’s located in an abandoned building and served a creative set of vegetarian dishes. The staff is great, the courses are great and the ambience is quirky.  

Day 3

BREAKFAST

House of Small Wonder

Cute cafe for breakfast or brunch. They have a great selections of veggie dishes – such as avocado and goat cheese sandwich or zucchini salad. Ideal cafe to hang out with your friends, enjoy the ambience and have some delicious small plates.

TOURISTIC

Judisches Museum

This museum is a must! Though it may leave you heavy hearted, disoriented and possibly claustrophobic from the impactful artwork. The Jewish Museum is mixed with powerful sculptures sending a message about the cruelty the Jews faced, to artifacts from the I World War. It leaves you with chills down your spine. It is informative and an amazing experience to walk through. 

LUNCH

Dudu

Amazing vegetarian options! The pho and summer rolls are great, but the sushi was incredible. They had a creative take on veg sushi, adding guacamole, salsa and various vegetables and leaves. They also serve a delicious Japanese iced tea. Moreover, the mood of the space is pleasant, with a cute outdoor sitting area. 

TOURISTIC

Haus Schwarzenberg  & Tiergarten

These are some other spots you should check out while in Berlin. The city has so many hidden gems that it is almost impossible to list the absolute best. However, these will make your trip memorable. It is certainly not your usual holiday experience; slightly offbeat with an interesting story at every corner.  

 

DINNER

Cafe Am Neuen See

Have a meal at this restaurant while walking around Tiergarten! They have a nice vibe, pretty lights, small lakeside bar and fun atmosphere. While the location itself is lovely, the pizzas are appetizing as well.
