Veganism has been swiftly growing, making it hard for brands to keep up! Starbucks is no exception, as one of their most popular drinks sells off the charts.

It is a rare occasion when a newly launched product is so well-received by consumers that it runs out quickly. You can include Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Latte on that short and prestigious list. One of Starbucks’ most popular seasonal offerings, PSL has sold more than 200 million cups since it was first made available. It was crafted in 2003 by Peter Dukes, who was inspired by the taste of pumpkin pie followed by a sip of espresso.
The seasonal drink which has been reformulated this year to exclude dairy, debuted in select locations across the UK, France, Netherlands, Austria, and Switzerland on the 6th of September 2018, just in time for the start of fall. Made with a combination of Starbucks Espresso Roast, steamed milk, and pumpkin pie flavored sauce, it is topped with steamed spices such as cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, and delicious whipped cream. Previously, the syrup contained condensed milk, but it has been rejigged to make it friendly to vegan without affecting the taste.
It is indeed great news that vegans do not have to miss out the beloved taste of Pumpkin Spice Lattes without having to feel guilty. The beverage can be enjoyed iced or hot and tastes just as great with dairy alternatives, such as oat, coconut milk or almond. The popularity of the drink is so overwhelming that it won’t be back in stock until next year. Whether it is out of health concerns, animal welfare or the environment, it seems that people nowadays are switching to plant-based products. Fortunately, delicious dairy-free alternatives abound, such as Starbucks’ PSL. Just make sure you get in line early next time it’s back in the market.
